At Desert Winds Recovery Center, you can expect specialized veterans’ substance use treatment that focuses on trauma and other co-occurring disorders.

Collaborative Care

Desert Winds’ multidisciplinary treatment teams address physical, behavioral, and mental health issues at the same time. Treating the whole person under one roof increases the quality of treatment and is essential for long-term recovery. Our integrated model acknowledges the connection between the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders. We target both disorders together. Transitional Care Plans

Each client works together with their treatment team to develop an aftercare program that works for them:


  • Appointments are scheduled with primary care physicians, specialty providers, and other mental health treatment providers as part of discharge planning.
  • Participation in 12-step and other community support groups
  • Identifying strategies for managing symptoms to sustain long-term sobriety and better overall health
  • Taking steps to restore positive family relationships through family therapy or other means
